I?m going in a million different directions today! Rather than leave you high and dry, I?ve decided to re-post one of my favorite Sunday archives featuring a light filled London home re-imagined by interior designer, and home owner, Sheila Harley. Built in the 1860s, the house retains many of its original features including fireplaces, shutters, mouldings and banisters. The only major changes were putting in a new Smallbone kitchen, adding a large family bathroom and replacing the old parquet floor with oak boards. The pale neutral palette enhances the beauty of the period architecture and creates a perfect backdrop for the designers contemporary furniture, antiques and collection of tribal art. In addition, the striped rugs and zebra ottoman add a splash of pattern and personality to this family home. A Victorian gem thoughtfully restored for a young modern family?how refreshing!

Etta Lee (Raulston) and Robert William Kastens? celebrated their 50^th?wedding anniversary on June 22. Mrs. Kastens is the daughter of the late Earl and Ethel Raulston of Maryville, TN; Mr. Kastens is the son of the late Ernst and Elsie Kastens of New York City. This year both Bob and Etta will celebrate 70 years of age, 50 years of marriage, and 45 years of service in the Christian ministry. Their first ministry was with the Bethel and Keenersville Christian churches in Hot Springs, NC (1967, ?68). Since then, they have served with the Sullivan Road Christian Church, Knoxville, TN (1968-72); Belvue Christian Church, Kingsport, TN (1972-84); Havendale Christian Church, Winter Haven, FL (1984-87); Hickory Valley Christian Church (1987-92); and South Louisville Christian Church, Louisville, KY (1992?2008). They have been serving with First Christian Church, Crossville, TN, since 2008. The couple have four children, nine grandchildren; and one great-grandson. The children hosted a reception for their parents June 23 at the Art Circle Public Library, Crossville, TN.

On June 18, Mike and Teresa Beauregard began their sixth year as homeparents at Shiloh Christian Children?s Ranch, Clarence, MO.

Bayer earnings hit by lawsuit provisions

BERLIN (AP) ? Drug and chemical company Bayer AG says its second-quarter earnings were a third lower than last year because of one-time charges that included money set aside to deal with lawsuits linked to a contraceptive.

Revenues rose 10 percent however and the company raised its full-year outlook.

Bayer on Tuesday reported net earnings of ?494 million ($606 million) for April-June ? down 34 percent from ?747 million a year earlier. Revenues climbed to ?10.18 billion from ?9.25 billion.

Earnings were weighed down by one-time deductions from earnings totaling ?762 million. That included ?496 million in money set aside for settlement costs from lawsuits over birth control pills marketed as Yasmin and YAZ. Bayer faces lawsuits in the United States from women claiming the contraceptive caused blood clots that led to serious health consequences.

Otherwise the picture was brighter. Bayer said it was raising its predictions for full-year revenue and pre-tax earnings. Pharmaceutical sales rose 4.3 percent, helped by growth in the United States and China, while Western Europe declined.

Sales boomed 17 percent in the company's farm chemical business, continuing strong sales from the first quarter. The company said business was helped by high prices for agricultural products.

The company's materials division also saw stronger sales to companies as Bayer benefited from higher prices in North America and Europe which offset declines in Asia. The division makes foam and plastic for a wide range of uses including autos, construction and sporting goods.
